Hong Wai x Aubade

The Collaboration

Aubade has invited the Chinese artist Hong Wai on board this year, and together they have redrawn the boundaries between art and lingerie. They have created a special line that forms a bridge between the two cultures. Renowned for her Chinese ink paintings and calligraphy following ancient Chinese traditions, Hong Wai brings lingerie to life with her sense of detail and technical prowess. Her feminine figures are voluptuous, exuding strength and vitality through the smooth movements of her brush strokes.

Born in Shanghai in 1982, the artist Hong Wai grew up in Macao and Taiwan. She currently lives in Paris and Macao. The artist is most well-known for her contemporary interpretations of Chinese ink paintings entitled "Secret de Boudoir series" and "Feminine Landscape series". She is the trailblazer of a new generation of artists using the ancient technique of painting with ink. She brings a decidedly feminine touch to a male-dominated centuries-old technique. Hong Wai is a graduate of the Department of Chinese Literature at National Taiwan University, and also holds a Master's in the Theory and Practice of Art and Language from the École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris. Following her first solo exhibition at the age of 17, the artist displayed her work in the Sotheby's Gallery in Hong Kong, the Lisbon Museum of the Orient, the Macao Museum of Art, and a handful of the biggest international art fairs such as Art Stage Singapore and Art Taipei. She has also taken part in exhibitions in Paris, Zurich, New York, Miami and Montreal. One of her most recent achievements is her solo exhibition at the Museum of the Orient (Museu do Oriente) in Lisbon.
